NICE & MONACO, FRANCE

NOT SO NICE

After Switzerland, we headed south through Italy and found another pearler of a camp spot… We built a ripper fire, 3 bottles of Italian red with Sia and Robbie Williams serenading us in the background whilst we once again tackled a GHRD with some ground breaking realizations. We woke up surprisingly fresh, brewed a hot apple tea and got back on the road, bound for the glamorous Cote d’Azure. The drive was stunning as we twisted and turned over the mountain range and eventually arrived into Nice. We initially thought we must have arrived into the wrong Nice as we were absolutely repulsed upon first impressions. Nice was dirty, busy and just plain old average not even a notch on Merewether! We were completely unimpressed and didn’t hang around for further disappointment so hastily jumped back in the car and hugged the coast until we came into a small peninsular called Saint Jean Cap Ferrat with a deluge of imposing mansions and quaint pebble beache . NOW we were impressed! So much so that we settled into a prime little restaurant with a rooftop terrace overlooking the bay and had lunch and some ice cold vinos. We walked along the shore and tried to imagine ourselves one the oceanfront balconies sipping the finest wines and cheeses. Then jolted back into reality when we returned to Vic. We headed a bit further along and came into Monaco hoping to catch up with Kez’s Uncle and Aunty, but later found out that they were in fact in Australia visiting her parents in Belmont. Ads won Kez’s vote when he announced he had found a hotel on the esplanade within our budget. Sorta. Watching the sunset from our little balcony was a tad romantic and we considering hanging around a bit longer but thought it would be better to come back some other time when the rel’s were home.

WIN:
Having Palermo Beach to ourselves.

FAIL:
Bill and Jenny Payne: our timing and (lacking) communication was atrocious. Next time we might even try and coordinate something in advance rather than just lobbing into town. It’s times like this that spontaneity is overrated.

Mum and Dad Payne: Your recommendations of restaurants and hotels. Just goes to show that you HAVEN’T even read our blog and how poor we are on tour.
