TIME TO LOVE YA AND LIMA

Okay, time to be honest. After so much fun and partying for the past couple of months, we expected that our first night in Peru would be a quiet and uneventful one. Boy were we wrong! We did lots of running around to get some documents signed and sent back to Oz causing the afternoon to become hectic and a tad stressful, so come 6.00pm we decided it was wine time and grabbed a bottle of Chilean Malbec on our way back to our modest little abode. Exhausted from being in 3 countries in 8 hours, we made a small cheese platter and relaxed in our room, avoiding the temptation of going out in swanky Miraflores…. Until we needed a corkscrew. There was apparently a little bar on the rooftop of our hostel so Ads ducked up to see if he could get the much needed wine opened. When he returned (bottle opened), he casually mentioned that we should both go back upstairs and have one beer on the rooftop and drink in the atmosphere. Easily persuaded, Kez agreed and we rugged up for our one brewsky… Followed by another because it was such a cool atmosphere… And then another because we met some fellow Aussies… And then another because our fellow Aussie mates shouted us a round… And then another because we had to return the shout to our new Aussie pals… And then another because we met an Aussie who used to (unknowingly) live next door to Kez in Bar Beach… And then another five because Ads got behind the bar and decided to let the bartender/birthday boy have some time out on the other side of the bar and kindly took care of his duties. Before we knew it, it was sunrise and only an hour before our taxi was going to pick us up to take us to the airport so we retreated from the still raving rooftop and packed our bags ready for a painful day ahead. We finally reached Cusco with our eyes hanging out of our heads and managed to score a “sympathy deal” on a gorgeous hotel in the heart of Cusco, complete with underfloor heating, huge jacuzzi and reruns of Beverley Hills 90210. Beats Berocca any day of the week.

FAIL:
Our willpower.

NOTABLE NOTES:

SLEEP: Kokopelli Backpackers is in a great location within Miraflores – the nicest area in Lima (in our opinion). The hostel has good facilities for socializing, however the rooms are pretty basic and the ‘private’ bathroom is not as private as one expects (outside of the room). Very good for meeting other travelers – everyone seems to be in the mood to party. $28/night for double room and own lockable shower/toilet cubicle.
